California fires: How to help victims of Woolsey Fire and Hill Fire

Donate to the Ventura County Community Foundation

The Ventura County Community Foundation has established the Hill Fire/Woolsey Fire Sudden and Urgent Needs Effort Fund to support the immediate needs of community nonprofit organizations serving those affected by the wildfires.

Donate to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles

Those wishing to support the United Way of Greater Los Angeles\’s wildfire relief efforts can make a cash donation to the organization\’s Disaster Relief Fund on its website. The organization\’s relief efforts focus specifically on helping homeless and low-income individuals recover after fires and other natural disasters in the area.

Donate, volunteer with the Red Cross

Those who wish to make cash donations to support Red Cross relief efforts can do so on the Red Cross website or over the phone by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

The Red Cross accepts applications for volunteers on its website. Volunteer work ranges from phone calls, data entry and client registration, to shelter support and supply replenishment.

Support the Salvation Army Ventura Corps wildfire relief fund

The Salvation Army Ventura Corps is accepting cash donations to support wildfire relief efforts. The organization will use funds raised to provide food, shelter and other personal necessities victims and first responders in impacted areas.

Rides

Lyft was partnering with United Way to offer rides to those who need help getting out of their homes in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Riders dial 2-1-1, and can get a free ride. Lyft did note however, that it should not be used for those who need an emergency service. See more information here.

Text-to-Help

AT&T was offering a text-to-help service for victims of the fires. Anyone who wants to help can text \”CAWILDFIRES\” to 90999 to make a $10 donation to support RedCross disaster efforts.

AT&T was also waiving charges for those affected by the fires. See more information here.

In addition to T Mobile offering a similar deal, starting Saturday, Nov. 10 through Monday, T-Mobile will plan to have disaster relief trucks at the following locations:

Pierce College – 7100 El Rancho Drive Woodland Hills

  • Saturday: from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Sunday: from approximately 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Monday: from approximately 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Taft Charter High School – 5461 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills

  • Saturday: from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: from approximately 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
  • Monday: from approximately 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Bristol Farms was providing relief options for fire evacuees.
