PHOTOS: David Gilmour Guitar Collection

On June 20, 2019, Christie\’s, the world-renowned auction house, will present The David Gilmour Guitar Collection: the personal guitar collection of rock \’n\’ roll legend David Gilmour — guitarist, singer, and songwriter of Pink Floyd.

The auction includes more than 120 guitars, many of them Gilmour’s preferred Fender models of Broadcasters, Esquires, Telecasters and Stratocasters.  The auction will mark a rare opportunity for guitar aficionados, musicians, and collectors to explore one of the world’s most comprehensive groupings of guitars that recorded albums, toured the world, and hooked generations.

And what’s the most coveted guitar in the auction?  Well, of course it’s “THE BLACK STRAT” – the Fender Stratocaster that recorded much of Pink Floyd’s seminal masterpiece The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), as well as follow-up albums Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and The Wall (1979).

In advance of the auction, which takes place at Christie’s in New York, 10 of the most iconic guitars in the David Gilmour Collection were exhibited in Los Angeles (preceded by a showing of the full collection in London and followed by a smaller preview in New York).  KLOS was there to take some photos, spend some time with these amazing guitars, and talk with fellow admirers who stopped by, including a man and his son who drove several hours from Bakersfield just to get a glimpse of these iconic axes.

Estimates for the sale of these rare and incredibly important guitars start at $300, with proceeds to benefit charity.
