Pet Adoption Day FAQs

Q1. Will there be puppies and kittens at the Pet Adoption Day? A1. Yes, there will be puppies and kittens available while they last.

Q2. What breeds will be available for adoption?
A2. There will be 200 – 300 puppies, dogs, cats and kittens, of various breeds, mixed breeds and sizes, looking for homes at the Pet Adoption Day.

Q3. Can I bring my dog to Pet Adoption Day?
A3. Yes, spcaLA encourages anyone who is considering pet adoption to bring their entire family to meet a new dog they may adopt. It is not necessary to bring an owned dog to meet a cat. Please do not bring cats to the event. Dogs must be on-leash.

Q4. Where do I park?
A4. Enter El Dorado Park using the south entrance off of Spring Street. Let the guard booth know you’re there for PET ADOPTION DAY and you will be directed to FREE event parking in El Dorado Park. Visit spcaLA.com for more information.

Q5. What information do I need to bring so I can adopt an animal at the Pet Adoption Day? A5. Please bring landlord information/copy of lease. If you own a town home/condominium, please bring CCR/HOA documents. Also, bring your valid government-issued photo identification. Must be 18 or older to adopt. Bring all human family members too.

Q6. What is the cost for adoptions?
PICK YOUR OWN PRICE! Qualified adopters can pick their own price for pet adoption fees, thanks to spcaLA Adoption Sponsor, VCA Animal Hospitals. Regular adoptions fees range from $125 to $255.

Q7. Are you offering adoption specials?
A7. YES! PICK YOUR OWN PRICE ADOPTION FEES. All spcaLA adoption requirements apply. Discount applies only to pets adopted on June 15, 2019.

Q8. What forms of payment do you accept?
A8. Cash, VISA, MC, American Express, and Discover card

Q9: What’s included with the adoption fee? A9:

Swag bag full of goodies from event sponsors & vendors
Spay/neuter surgery (dogs, cats, & rabbits)
Species-appropriate current vaccinations and microchip (registration not included) Health examination by spcaLA medical staff
Certificate for free health examination by participating VCA Animal Hospital
No enrollment fee for Trupanion pet insurance**

Q10: How long does the adoption process take?
A10: Adequate time and patience – adoptions can take 45 minutes to 1 hour. Give yourself enough time to park and be shuttled to the Village.

Q11: The adoption process includes a filling out an application. A11: Applications are approved and sometimes are denied.

Q12: What can I expect this year?
A12: This year, join us for a fun, festival-style booths, games, and giveaways on the grass in the spcaLA Agility Yard! You’ll get the chance to experience the whole spcaLA P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center.
