James Gang’s Jimmy Fox Recalls Opening for Led Zeppelin on Day of Moon Landing

Drummer Jimmy Fox remembered what it was like to open for Led Zeppelin while mankind landed on the moon.

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 made the trip to the moon. It also happened to be the same day that the James Gang band opened for Led Zeppelin at the Musicarnival.

“It was a monumental day,” Fox recalled to Ultimate Classic Rock. “‘Hey man, they’re landing on the goddamn Moon and we’re playing with Led Zeppelin!’ It was big, big stuff for us. It’s probably a watershed day.”
