Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon Speaks With Matt Pinfield About New Album, Touring, And His Influences

New wave band Duran Duran has been innovating music since they formed in Birmingham in 1978, and they still continue to experiment today. Lead singer Simon Le Bon joined Matt Pinfield on New & Approved to discuss the past and present journey of his musical career.

Last October, Duran Duran released their 15th studio album “Future Past.” Simon tells Matt all about how the album came about and how the sound was formed. He also talks about working with pianist Mike Garson, who is most famous for his work with David Bowie.

Simon uncovers how he first discovered his love of music. Classical music was his first taste, and it was the genre that truly grew his appreciation of the art. Later he would find The Beatles, which eventually led him to some of his other favorite musicians including David Bowie, T. Rex, and Patti Smith.

Live performances are extremely important for Duran Duran. Simon tells Matt about how the band prioritizes putting on an incredible live show for their fans and the spark that is caused from their audience. After decades on the road, Duran Duran recently announced they are embarking upon yet another tour of America this year. They will be performing three nights in a row at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 9th, 10th, and 11th 2022!
