The Who have kept fans on the edge of their seat the past month with their indecisiveness. After being fired in April 2025 and reinstated shortly after, drummer Zak Starkey has announced he has been fired once again.

“The Who are heading for retirement, whereas Zak is 20yrs younger and has a great future with his new band and other exciting projects,” vocalist Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend posted on social media. “He needs to devote all his energy into making it all a success. We both wish him all the luck in the world.”

However, Starkey (who has been with The Who since 1996) claims this statement was false. “I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit The Who to pursue my other musical endeavors,” Starkey posted “This would be a lie.”

The band announced Scott Devours, Roger Daltrey’s drummer for his solo tours, will be taking Starkey’s place for the upcoming “Farewell Tour.”
