Musician James Chambers, known professionally as Jimmy Cliff, passed away today at the age of 81 of a seizure followed by pneumonia. Cliff was a Jamaican reggae, ska, and soul singer who helped pioneer reggae music since he began his career in the 1960s.
Some of Cliff’s most well-known hits included, “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” “The Harder They Come,” and “Wonderful World, Beautiful People.” Cliff starred in the film The Harder They Come in 1972, which helped popularize reggae into the mainstream.
