25 Years Ago: INXS’s Michael Hutchence Dies At 37

On November 22nd, 1997, another life was lost way too soon. It was the day that INXS lead vocalist Michael Hutchence reportedly committed suicide at the young age of 37.

Hutchence’s tragic death was a shock to the world as his life seemed perfect with the success of INXS. Nevertheless, the Australian singer hid his dark depression from the world that would lead to his sad ending. However, some believe his death may have been an accident and many theories have been suggested on what might’ve actually happened. Whatever way he actually passed, the loss of Hutchence was a devastation to music and to the world.

Hutchence co-founded INXS with his classmates in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. Originally called The Farriss Brothers, the band would fuse together new wave, ska, and pop and appeal to a wide range of audiences. INXS found stardom throughout the 1980s once they released their self-titled debut album, which would eventually become a huge hit. Since Hutchence’s passing, INXS has continued to record and tour, which we are sure their former singer would have wanted.
