Multiple Sclerosis, or M.S., is a disabling disease that affects the central nervous system, is unpredictable, and can cause symptoms ranging from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. And the statistics are hard to believe: Every single hour in the U.S. alone, someone new is diagnosed with MS. MS affects more than 2.1 million people worldwide at any given time.
So, when long-time well-known L.A. area publicist (and friend of KLOS) NANCY SAYLE was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, she didn’t take the news sitting down. Fighting every step of the way, Nancy, who passionately throws herself into everything she cares about (she also tirelessly heads up the Fur & Feather Animal Sanctuary – furfeather.org – and is an ardent supporter of animal rights), decided to do something about it.

Rather than simply donate to more medical research, Nancy decided to directly help the people who struggle daily with MS. Asking some of her long-time, high-profile friends to join her in her battle, the Rock Against MS Benefit Concert was born in 2013 and had its THIRD ANNUAL BENEFIT CONCERT Wednesday at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go.
Sponsored by KLOS, Monster, D’Addario, Schecter, TourBusLive.,com, the Whisky, and others, and hosted by KLOS’s own daytime enchantress DJ MELISSA MAXX and well-known actor, musician, voiceover artist, and everyone’s favorite Ninja Turtle ROBBIE RIST, this year’s show was the most epic yet!! A non-stop parade of notable faces and sounds.
Singer TODD MORSE (Offspring/H20) and his band TODD’S PLANET kicked off the night and set the bar early for a great evening of music!
The rest of the evening was one amazing supergroup after another including STEVE STEVENS, BILLY MORRISON, and ERIK ELDENIUS of Billy Idol’s band, JEFF PILSON (Dokken/Foreigner), BLASKO (Ozzy), PHIL BUCKMAN (Filter), JOE RETTA (Heaven & Earth/Sweet), PHIL X (Bon Jovi), ROBERT SARZO (Queensryche, Hurricane), JOSHUA RAY (Shania Twain), JACK RUSSELL and Great White, JOHNNY-G (Slash’s Snake Pit), MARTY O’BRIEN (Lita Ford/Tommy Lee), STEVIE STEWART (Sweet), DICKI FLISZAR (Bruce Dickenson), ROBBY LOCHNER (Great White/Rob Halford’s Fight), HOWIE SIMON (Nelson/Alcratrazz), TONY MONTANA (ex-Great White), MATT STARR, (Ace Frehley), TONY (TINY) BIUSO, DAMON FOX (BIGelf), EJ CURSE (bassist and actor), MARQ TORIEN (Bullet Boys), FRANKLIN VANDERBILT (Lenny Kravitz), and the lovely GRETCHEN BONADUCE, and more!
EVERY SINGLE SET was amazing – but one exciting highlight was when original Guns N’ Roses drummer STEVEN ADLER joined his old GnR alums GILBY CLARKE and TEDDY ZIG ZAG on stage (along with EJ Curse and bag piper JOHN ALLEN) for a ripping cover of AC/DC’s “Long Way To The Top”!! ADLER stayed on stage while Robert Sarzo, Joshua Ray, Jeff Pilson, and Todd Morse took over band duties for a cover of GnR song “Rocket Queen”, and PATRICK STONE jumped in for a huge HUGE cover of GnR’s “WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE”!! IT WAS SO AMAZING to hear the song, but to see ADLER get back to the stage – HAPPY AND HEALTHY – playing like he’s never missed a beat – literally!!! It was a life-changing moment for all.
And if that didn’t prove to be enough MUSICAL HISTORY IN THE MAKING, immediately following that set was VIRTUAL MUSIC ROYALTY as legendary MC5 guitarist WAYNE KRAMER, Minuteman/Stooges/Dos bassist MIKE WATT (clearly one of the best players to ever slap the bass, man), and the incomparable drummer STEPHEN PERKINS of Jane’s Addiction literally blew the historic roof off of the Whisky in a ripping set that included Kramer’s infamous MC5 hit “Kick out the Jams”!!! Seriously, it was an HONOR watching that go down.
There is just no other way to sum this entire show other than simply saying IT KICKED ASS!!
Overall, the event raised more than $15,000 to help people living with MS – an amazing job done by all.
