Tool bassist Justin Chancellor recently admitted that the band’s latest album title was inspired by none other than their fears.

Chancellor gave Metal Hammer an inside scoop about what the album title actually means. “It means immunizing yourself against the things that make you afraid,” he said. “As you grow older, you want to learn, you want to change, you want to evolve and you don’t want to live in fear. Fear is the mind killer.”

When asked about the band’s fears, Chancellor said, “I can’t speak for everybody, but I guess it would be: Do you have anything left to give? What’s your purpose? When you’re getting older, you think about what you have to offer, and what’s the point of your life. We are all musicians and we’re not really good musicians. But we have this gracious gift that has been bestowed on us, and we don’t want to disappoint. So I guess our biggest fear would be, just giving up.”
