Recap: The Black Crowes @ The Whisky A Go Go

Yesterday around noon, The Black Crowes announced they would be performing at The Whisky A Go Go that same evening to celebrate the release of their newest EP “1972.”

Fans began lining up at the venue on the Sunset Strip about 3PM in hope to score tickets that cost $19.72. Eventually, the small, legendary venue was filled before the concert began.

The Black Crowes took the stage right at 7PM and opened with a cover of The Rolling Stones’ Rocks Off. For the entire first half of the concert, the band performed their 1972 covers in order of how they appear on the EP. They played T. Rex’s The Slider, Rod Stewart’s You Wear It Well, Little Feat’s Easy To Slip, David Bowie’s Moonage Daydream and The Temptations Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone. When they finished their set of covers, they continued the night with all of their originals. We heard Thorn In My Pride, By Your Side, She Talks To Angels, Ballad, and Wiser Time before they closed the show with their classic hit Remedy.

Experiencing a Black Crowes show in such an intimate setting was quite a phenomenon. The audience was extremely enthusiastic to see frontman Chris Robinson and his brother Rich Robinson, bassist Sven Pipien, along with the rest of the incredibly talented band in such close quarters.

The Black Crowes have always been open about their greatest influences, which include the raw blues-based rock ‘n’ roll bands from the 1970s. They truly went back to their roots with this new EP.

1972 will be officially released tomorrow so be sure to listen!
