Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has always been known for his wild antics and fun-loving character. However, the world gets to experience the softer side of Diamond Dave with his new single Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway, which was released last week.

The emotional song’s lyrics look back fondly on Roth’s days with Van Halen. “We laughed, we cried, we threw the television off that balcony. That memory means so much to me.” Roth even mentions specific memories when he sings, “Remember when you safety pinned the tablecloth to my pants,” and, “Kicked out the restaurant to make the night complete, six pack and a happy meal on a park bench down the street.”

A music video was also released on Youtube for Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway, which will likely tug on the heart strings of all Van Halen fans. The video features a montage of photos and videos primarily from the band’s early days in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the clips include the band performing on stage while others show the group simply hanging out as friends.

Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway is actually a bit older than it may seem. The tune came about in 2007 during an acoustic session with Roth, John 5, keyboardist Brett Tuggle, and Roth’s former drummer Gregg Bissonette.
