Billy Gibbons Discusses ZZ Top History & More With Matt Pinfield on New & Approved

Texas blues legend Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top joined Matt Pinfield for an in-depth discussion on this episode of New & Approved.

Matt and Billy start off by discussing the 2019 documentary “ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas,” which is a must-see for any ZZ Top fan. We then travel back in time as Billy discusses his earliest days in music from seeing Elvis at 5-years-old to sitting in on a B.B. King session at 7-years-old. Through his exposure to music during his childhood, Billy was destined to be a blues and R&B fanatic.

We also learn about the Houston, Texas music scene as Billy began his music career. Prior to ZZ Top, he was a member of the band The Moving Sidewalks, who were heavily inspired by The 13th Floor Elevators. With The Moving Sidewalks, Billy also formed a fascinating friendship with Jimi Hendrix. Billy also discusses how ZZ Top’s longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis stepped in after Dusty Hill’s passing. This was one of Dusty’s last wishes.
