John William Cummings, more commonly known as Johnny Ramone, was a force to be reckoned with as the guitarist of pioneering punk band The Ramones. It comes as no surprise that the late musician’s possessions would be sold at a whopping price. At an RR Auction on September 25th, the punk rock staple of a guitar was sold to its new proud owner (who wishes to remain anonymous for some obvious reasons) for $937,500. Also included were the original strap, strings and three picks.

Johnny’s famous electric guitar, a 1965 Mosrite Ventures II, was used on every Ramones album and was his prized possession from 1977 up until the band broke up in 1996. The instrument was meant to replace Johnny’s former guitar, his blue Ventures II slab body, which was stolen from the band’s van (along with the rest of their gear) in 1977. Johnny had the opportunity to buy the Mosrite earlier that year, but he felt the $500 price tag was too expensive.
