Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has spent time on the road for close to five decades. Although he seems like the man with all the energy in the world, Roth has announced that the time has come to call it a day.

During a phone call with the Las Vegas Review Diamond Dave stated, “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring…This is the first, and only, official announcement. You’ve got the news. Share it with the world.”

Roth will be ending his career with five shows at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Jan. 5 and Jan. 7-8. The good news is that his former Van Halen bandmate Alex Van Halen may be joining him. “Al and I have been talking, and I can’t speak for him just yet, but he knows what I am about to say. We speak to each other constantly, two or three times a day. We laugh like pirates.”

The rocker also mentioned he will bringing everything he’s got to these final shows to end his dazzling performance career with a major bang.
