’90s grunge fans were in for quite an incredible surprise yesterday. While it was kept under the radar, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, and Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil joined together in a new band called 3rd Secret. Yesterday, the trio (accompanied by guitarist Bubba Dupree and vocalists Jillian Raye and Jennifer Johnson) revealed the project when they released their debut self-titled album.

The grunge legends kept the album and band a secret, but through social media they did point to something exciting coming. Back in February Novoselic tweeted “really busy trying to finish a record. In the middle of some hangups – looking for a mid-March release. But it’s a secret, so don’t tell anybody!”

3rd Secret’s record fuses together the typical grunge elements with some folk-inspired sounds for a completely unique set of songs. Listen to the full album 3rd Secret here:
